About Me
My name is Mimi Phan and I hold a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics from UNSW. Throughout my studies, I developed a strong interest in programming, software development, cloud engineering, and, most notably, Machine Learning. I have gained experience in data analytics and data science, and have also worked on freelance software development projects. To deepen my knowledge in Mathematics, I plan to pursue further studies within the next couple of years. Hopefully, this period will allow sufficient time to ponder about with mathematics (specifically, Linear Algebra) and experience real-world applications of Machine Learning/AI, ultimately guiding me in determining the specific direction.
My passion for linear algebra and numerical methods has driven me to explore the intricacies of deep learning, particularly large language models (LLMs). Many of my projects involve large time-series datasets, and my parallel interest in game development has naturally drawn me toward applying reinforcement learning methods with large models. I prefer learning through solving real-world problems, as reflected in my ongoing project, Mimeus - an application that utilizes quantized variants of LLMs (Meta Llama) to address diverse challenges, as well as combining with the formal base models to build long-term companion bots to stand alongside humans. Mimeus currently explores how machines can emulate aspects of the human mind - particularly during user interactions, where developing socially intelligent behavior relies on human-centered insights such as emotional intelligence and the nuanced dynamics of linguistics.
